Botox and dysport INJECTIONS IN MIAMI & DELRAY BEACH

What is Botox injection?

Botox is a brand name of Botulinum Toxin which is used to reduce facial wrinkles cosmetically, as well as medical indications. Botox cosmetic injections are one of the most popular anti-aging treatments used worldwide. The injections are performed by a trained Board-certified medical professional that is familiar with facial anatomy.

Botox is typically used in Med spas to address frown lines, forehead wrinkles, brow lift, crow’s feet (smiles lines by the eyes), chin dimpling, lip flip, bunny lines, jawline slimming and neck bands (Platysmal bands or Nefertiti) which are one of the first signs of aging especially amongst women. Botox is a neurotoxin, which means it temporarily blocks nerve receptors of the muscle group responsible for making facial expressions and hence causing wrinkles.

Botox is also used therapeutically to treat medical conditions such as migraines, TMJ pain from excessive clenching, hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) and muscle stiffness to name a few.

Botox Versus Dysport

A common question is, what is the difference between Botox and Dysport. Botox and Dysport are brand names of neurotoxins such as “Coke and Pepsi”. They are owned by different pharmaceutical companies; Botox is owned by Allergan and Dysport is owned by Galderma.

Both Botox and Dysport are FDA approved to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Botox is a more well-known brand because it has been around longer. Botox usually takes 3-5 days to take effect, is a more precise injection and has both aesthetic and medical benefits (such as neck spams and overactive bladder).

Dysport on the other hand, was invented after Botox, has a quicker onset of 24-72 hours, and provides a more natural result. Optimal results are seen within 2 weeks and both last 3-4 months for both brands.

How Long DoES BOTOX INJECTIONS LAST?

Everyone metabolizes Botox at a different rate. On average, Botox lasts 3-4 months provided the patient follows post-op instructions. It is important to avoid strenuous exercise and sweating profusely (as in the case of going to the gym, laying out by the pool/beach or going to a sauna, steam room or jacuzzi) for 24 hours post treatment.

Additionally, certain medications, receiving less than optimal dosage (less number of units than recommended), having a naturally high metabolism, & certain disease processes affect the duration of all neurotoxins.

How Much Does botox Cost?

Botox cost varies based on the location of the medical facility, and who performs the treatment. Generally speaking, Botox ranges anywhere from $10-$18 per unit, with an average cost of $12 per unit.

An average treatment can include 20-64 units for the FDA approved areas of forehead lines, glabella lines and crow’s feet. Other areas such as lip flip, gummy smile reduction and bunny lines require less units.

It is very difficult to determine how many units of Botox is needed without an in-person consultation, because everyone is different. Prior to receiving Botox injection, the medical provider will ask for facial animation to determine the number of units needed

Best BOTOX

Injecting Botox requires years of experience in order to truly understand facial muscles and anatomy. Certain facial muscles are elevator muscles, and some are depressor muscles.

Having a clear understanding of these muscles is crucial to preventing ptosis (drooping). For instance injecting too low on the frontalis muscle (forehead muscle) may cause the eyebrows and upper eyelids to feel heavy as opposed to give a rested and an anti-aging appearance. Another important reason for knowing facial musculature is to know which muscles work in conjunction with each other.

The forehead muscle (elevator muscle) and the glabella (depressor muscle) are opposing muscles and if one is treated without the other, the result is a half relaxed and half wrinkled facial appearance during expression. When only the forehead muscle is injected with Botox and not the frown lines, the frown lines give an “ape appearance” from the side profile, especially in men with prominent glabella muscles.

In summary, for optimal results, ensure to seek out an experienced medical professional for aesthetic treatments to prevent undesirable outcomes and complications.
