We live in an era where antiaging procedures are both accessible and affordable by most people. Everybody wants to look and feel younger, as society has us believing that being youthful is a sign of beauty. Today, wrinkle reducers such as Botox and Dysport can provide us the opportunity to look younger than our actual age. Botox has become the most popular antiaging procedure globally. When Covid promoted social isolation and the rise of working remotely and using apps such as Zoom, more and more people sought out Botox procedures as they saw themselves on their computer screen more frequently. This gave rise to men and women seeking out aesthetic procedures to appear younger to their colleagues at work. This is referred to as “Zoom Boom”. 

Botox is a very quick procedure and after about two weeks of receiving Botox injections, the areas injected look wrinkle free. The first time someone receives Botox, the results are so incredible that going without this procedure almost never occurs.  The results are smoother forehead, crow’s feet (area around the eyes) and the glabella (frown lines). As of 2023, in the United States there are currently five FDA approved wrinkle reducers; Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and the newest addition called Daxxify. These medications treat facial wrinkles by stopping muscle contraction.

 There are some differences between these five neurotoxins, but they all have the same end result – stop fine lines and wrinkles from forming. In addition to cosmetic uses, the FDA has approved Botox injections for some medical use as well such as treating migraines and hyperhidrosis. Neurotoxins are approved for adults ages 18 and older. For younger people, neurotoxins are a preventative treatment. The cost varies based on the brand of neurotoxin, dosage, and units used, however, on average it is $12-$18 per unit which equates to $240-$360 per facial area on average.
