KYBELLA TREATMENT

What is KYBELLA?

Kybella is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment that targets the fat under the chin referred to as the “submental fat”. Kybella is an FDA approved cosmetic injectable procedure as an alternative to liposuction. Men and women over the age of 18 that have no medical conditions are a candidate for Kybella. The treatment takes 15-30 minutes and is made of synthetic deoxycholic acid. Kybella targets the fat cells of the “double chin” and requires no down time. Swelling is to be expected and more than one treatment is required. A consultation is required to ensure the area injected is in fact fat and not skin or muscle for optimal results. On average a minimum of 2-3 sessions are required. The ideal candidate is someone that has stubborn fat and exercise does not decrease the fullness under the chin. The cost and number of sessions required is unique to every individual.

HOW DOES KYBELLA REALLY WORK?

Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring bile acid to absorb fat. Once the right candidate is selected, the area is marked, numbed and injected. Expect about 20-40 injections based on the amount of fat present under the chin. Deoxycholic acid destroys the fat gradually and over the following weeks the body metabolizes the fat. Once the fat is gone, it does not return in the area injected.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE-EFFECTS OF KYBELLA?

Kybella does not require an incision and is non-invasive. However, pain, bruising and swelling is to be expected up to a week or two. It is important to plan social events at least 2 weeks after receiving Kybella treatment.

Best BOTOX

Injecting Botox requires years of experience in order to truly understand facial muscles and anatomy. Certain facial muscles are elevator muscles, and some are depressor muscles.

Having a clear understanding of these muscles is crucial to preventing ptosis (drooping). For instance injecting too low on the frontalis muscle (forehead muscle) may cause the eyebrows and upper eyelids to feel heavy as opposed to give a rested and an anti-aging appearance. Another important reason for knowing facial musculature is to know which muscles work in conjunction with each other.

The forehead muscle (elevator muscle) and the glabella (depressor muscle) are opposing muscles and if one is treated without the other, the result is a half relaxed and half wrinkled facial appearance during expression. When only the forehead muscle is injected with Botox and not the frown lines, the frown lines give an “ape appearance” from the side profile, especially in men with prominent glabella muscles.

In summary, for optimal results, ensure to seek out an experienced medical professional for aesthetic treatments to prevent undesirable outcomes and complications.

HOW MUCH DOES KYBELLA COST?

Kybella is an out-of-pocket cosmetic procedure, and unfortunately it is not covered by insurance. The average cost of Kybella is $1,000-$1,500 per session.  The geography and experience level of the medical provider determine the cost of Kybella injections.
